The film follows Moheen and Bonolata, as they travel through the timeless, abstract world of Jibananando Das, one of the greatest poets of Bengal. These two characters are the poet’s most famous creations- Moheen, a herdsman of horses in a Neolithic autumn moonlit night, and Bonolata, as elusive as Helen or Mona Lisa, her identity forever wrapped in shrouds. Here, Moheen stumbles upon Bonolata through various creases of time, but she always escapes without revealing her whereabouts. Sometimes, she is a perfumer, sometimes a shepherd or a prostitute called Bishakha. Moheen spends a sizeable part of his life looking for her, crossing paths with other remarkable women on the way who don’t entice him nearly as much. Like the quest to find the Holy Grail, his pursuit consumes him till Bishakha takes the form of his maid, untethering his last link to sanity. Jibanananda himself lives a life of meagre means, his own creation eluding him to an untimely demise. The film takes inspiration from the real poet’s life, his creations and the mysteries surrounding them.
